We will be asking participants to help us determine which of the following activities to choose from:
(Participants will be asked to indicate two preferred options in the expression of interest)
- Archery - Campers shoot for ‘Olympic Style’ bulls-eye targets. In addition to developing technique, campers will learn about the different parts of the bow and arrow and will be shown the correct procedures and techniques for loading and releasing. Fun games and challenges are incorporated into each session.
- Tree top challenge - Self-Belay High ropes course with zip lines.
- Tree Climb - Tree Climb in an activity that involves Participants, on belay, climbing up and down a large tree. Maximum 2 at a time climbing while the other participants in the group assist with belaying and putting on safety equipment, preparing for their turn.
- Giant Swing - A Large swing for one participant at a time. The Remainder of the participants waiting for their turn or whom have already had a turn on the Giant swing will haul a long rope to pull up the harnessed participant to a height of their choosing. Either the harnessed participant or an instructor will pull a release cord to activate the swing. A universal harness can be used to allow all participants with varying abilities the opportunity to participate.
- Crate stacking - An instructor lead crate stacking activity where participants work together to construct a tower of crates for one participant to climb while on belay through a belay bank system, participants also assist with the belaying process. Participants will rotate rolls until everyone who wishes to climb has had a turn climbing.
- Raft Building - Campers work in teams to design and build a raft using rope, wooden poles and floating barrels. Y Staff and supervisors will provide encouragement and monitor safety.
- Kitchen Garden - Environmental activity that starts with a discussion around sustainability and what participants can do to reduce the impact they have on the environment around them. Participants are shown the garden beds and produce. They are briefed on which items they can use on their pizzas. Instructor then facilitates the making and cooking of pizzas in the wood fire pizza oven.
- Bike skills - Participants undertake a bike skills activity session on mountain bikes or adaptive bicycles aimed at improving their current skills level. Session begins with basic familiarisation and skill assessment on the basketball court with the option to extend the session onto the skills track and the bike track around camp, dependent upon the participants abilities. The session is facilitated by YMCA program staff who have undertaken internal activity training specific to this activity.
- Risky Kids - The Risky Kids activity aims to encourage participants to learn and utilise a wider variety of movements using Parkour, Ninja and Free-running as the base platforms. It also uses specific mindsets to inspire growth in areas such as judging and managing risks on the fly, resilience and understanding everyone is different.
